1968 - 2025: Stephen Joseph Spellman passed away on October 21, 2025, in Raleigh, NC, at the age of 57. Steve was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 17, 1968, but was raised n New Jersey. His careers in the US Navy and the New York City Fire Department showcased his bravery and selflessness. His dedication to helping others was not just a job but a calling, and he served with honor until his retirement.
Steve's interests and hobbies were as diverse as his skills. He was a master at the grill and took great pleasure in cooking for a crowd, especially during VFW and American Legion meetings. His camping trips were legendary, and his love for vacationing at Lake Gaston and fishing with his son were well known among his family and friends. Steve's green thumb was evident in his beautiful landscaping and gardening, which were a source of pride and joy.
A jack of all trades, Steve was the go-to guy for anything you may have needed. His ability to fix, build, or solve problems was unparalleled. His fellow retired firefighters will miss the camaraderie and stories shared over breakfast, a tradition that Steve cherished deeply.
Steve's commitment to his community was unwavering. He volunteered with the Tunnel to Towers 9/11 Never Forget Exhibit, ensuring that the memories of his fallen brothers and sisters were honored. His involvement in this cause was a reflection of his enduring spirit of service. He was a proud Legacy Life Member of Wake Forest Memorial Post 8466, and a member of American Legion Post 187, serving in many capacities and offices.
Steve's legacy is one of love, laughter, and service, and it will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
He Leaves behind his beloved wife of 23 years, Nancy Todd Spellman and two children, Kristen Spellman and Stephen Spellman, Jr.
His many friends and relations will always cherish memories of Steve as a loving, handy, and funny man who made the world a better place by simply being in it.
