1930 - 2022: Vincent "Vinceā€ Ambrose Hunter was the embodiment of the American Dream. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on July 2, 1930, he was raised in a Catholic orphanage there. After leaving the orphanage, he immigrated to Canada and then to the United States, where he applied to become a US citizen. He enlisted in the US Army, received basic training as a tanker, and was shipped out to the Korean Conflict, where he was wounded in combat, received the Purple Heart, and achieved the rank of First Sergeant, along with his US citizenship in recognition of his military service. After his honorable discharge, he returned to New York City and was hired as a janitor at the International Business Machines Company (IBM). Some 37 years later, he retired from IBM as the manager of all their properties in Manhattan. During his career at IBM, and continuing into his retirement, Vince pursued his avocations of fine woodworking and restoring classic British automobiles, bringing more than 100 of them back to life. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends, sharing a multitude of stories about his life experiences. Vince moved to Louisburg, North Carolina from New York in 2004, where he became involved with both the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8466, and with the Wake Forest Purple Heart Foundation. As a Purple Heart recipient himself, Vince attended the annual Purple Heart Dinner regularly. After a brief illness, Vince passed away in his sleep on Monday morning, February 14, 2022. His wife of 46 years, Ann Teresa Hunter nee Milligan and all six of his siblings preceded Vince in death. He is survived by his wife, Noella Croteau Hunter of 18 years, children John, Maureen (Frank), Vincent all of NY, Irene (Chris), Louise, Paul (Danielle), Linda (Brad) all of Wake Forest, NC and Diane (Peter) of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
