1944 - 2022: Roy Andrew Carlson, 78, of Raleigh, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Roy was born on October 2, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, the fourth child of John A. and Anna Carlson. Roy proudly served in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1965, including decorated service in the Tonkin Gulf of Vietnam. He met his love Susan Noftz while they were both students at Wayne State University, and they married in 1967 and started a family together. They raised their three children in Michigan and North Carolina, where they were residents of Creedmoor for over 30 years. Roy had a long career, and worked at General Motors Technical Center, Northrop Services, and Lutheran Brotherhood (Thrivent). Roy was a lifelong man of God, and belonged to Hope Lutheran Church in Wake Forest, where he was a choir member and a member of various groups for seniors and men. He was proud of his service to veterans through Wake Forest American Legion Post 187 and his Life Membership in Wake Forest VFW Post 8466 as well as his term as Post Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Creedmoor. Roy loved gardening, tinkering, Sudoku, American history, and spending time with his family and friends.
