In preparation for a special Memorial Day service in memory of Army Special Forces Major Andrew Byers, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in November 2016. Post members cooked and served the food to raise funds to support local Veterans in need. The VFW partners with Sport Clips each year leading into Veterans' Day to raise money for the Help-a-Hero Scholarship Fund. This provides scholarships for higher education to Active Military and Veterans. On Saturday, 17 September 2022, Homes for Our Troops presented a new, completely accessible home to Post member, Derrick Sharpe. After Sharpe raised over $35,000 himself toward the costs, the organization funded the rest of the costs. Corporal Sharpe received life-threatening wounds after stepping on an IED in 2006 in Iraq. Several members of our Post went to St. Catherine of Siena School in Wake Forest, spoke about our experiences as Veterans, and presented a talk on Post 8466 honors Canadian Veteran of Middle East conflicts. The General James Moore Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Wake Forest provided dessert for Post 8466's monthly meeting.
